iOnTRAVEL
is a Travel Plan Management System developed by Netspin and Somerset County Council in 2009. The system is now available for sale - please see below for more information.
Since all major planning applications require a travel plan, Somerset County Council was concerned that they would not have the manpower to not only approve the prepared plan, but also to monitor that the goals in the plan are being met. Targets are set for several years, so it was clear that a system was required to help in monitoring of travel plans. Netspin were asked to develop a web-based system which would allow not only monitoring of travel plans but also an online input facility.

Travel plans form an important part of business management strategies and are an essential part of most major planning applications, but if the outcomes are not monitored the travel plan may become nothing more than a token.
Travel plans submitted to Somerset County Council contain various sections of information, including a set of travel plan documents, 5 year targets for the mode of transport used for journeys to/from the site and a set of actions to be implemented to achieve these targets. The iOnTRAVEL system has been developed to allow planning applicants to enter their travel plan details on-line. Somerset County Council view and approve each stage of the travel plan preparation.
The main benefit of this system is that it doesn't stop here. Once the plan is entered and approved the system is used to monitor that the actions and targets in the travel plan are achieved. Completed actions are entered into the system, as are performance figures against targets. The system monitors the information entered and automatically sends reminders if these deadlines are missed or if the targets are not achieved.
Somerset County Council's Travel Plan Co-ordinator is kept up-to-date on progress by email and has a comprehensive reporting system allowing progress to be monitored. The easy-to-use Content Management System gives the client the ability to change the page content on the site.
Netspin were commissioned to write the Travel Plan Monitoring System, iOnTRAVEL, in January 2009 and delivered the system within budget and on time.
After viewing the system, one user made the following comment:- "You recently gave me access to your "iOnTRAVEL" site. I have looked through the demo site and it seems very comprehensive and very clever!"
